Product Review: Nice quality but on the heavy side
I needed a pair of shoes for road / off-road use and was able to get these for a good price. The styling is not too 'loud' and I suppose I was lured to some extent by the claim of 'competition quality' at a sport price.
I had previously read that they were on the heavy side, but even so I was surprised that in size 46 they were about 1kg - more than double the weight of my regular trainers. Of course, the extra weight uses up more energy when spinning which is a shame. The ability to transfer more power through the upstroke is what I was really after, so I accepted the weight penalty as a necessary evil.
I had to buy a size larger than normal as Shimano sizes are on the tight side. The shoes are very comfortable, and the velcro system is so convenient allowing adjustments on the move.
The studs at the front of the shoes give good grip on steep grassy banks, but are lethal when coming to rest on tarmac - like trying to set your foot down on ice ! I...
