Product Review: Well made light gives bright but narrow beam
This is a lovely bit of kit coming with 4 AA rechargeables and a charger which plugs straight into the light. Commuters will like it because they don't have to unpack the thing every night, and tourers will like it because they can use disposables if they're camping.
It pushes out a very bright, narrow beam which lights your way for 100+m, with road furniture and dayglo winking back at you from a good quarter mile away. Motorists dip their headlights and pedestrians finally stop stepping out in front of you. The tight focus means the upper cut-off is very good and you don't dazzle oncoming pedestrians and cyclists - worth considering if you use narrow cycle paths regularly.
I've not run the thing flat yet but the claimed 5 hrs seems reasonable - after 3-4 hrs it hadn't started dimming.
The downside is the narrowness of the beam. Even on country lanes it's not really wide enough to see round corners, and I think mountain biking would be quite scary. I...
